Theo Clarke and Global Birth Trauma Alliance Special Adviser Dr Kim Thomas visited the Welsh Senedd today. This was in support of Dr Thomas’ organisation, the Birth Trauma Association - UK’s network event to make one year since the publishing of the APPG on Birth Trauma’s report.
The event brought together Senedd members, midwives, obstetricians and NHS leaders to find out more about the BTA’s work in support of mothers and fathers affected by traumatic birth.
Speakers included Sarah Murphy, the Senedd’s Minister for Mental Health & Wellbeing who spoke about her commitment to improving care for mothers with mental health problems following childbirth. Ms Clarke reminded the assembled guests about the Inquiry’s recommendations and underlined the point that much more needs to be done to tackle the problems in maternity care across the entire United Kingdom.
The event was hosted by Sam Rowlands MS and sponsored by Irwin Mitchell.
