Theo Clarke has today commented the Health Secretary for his continued delays on tackling maternal health issues and birth trauma. Whilst the announcement of a national investigation into maternity care failures is a welcome sign of Mr Streeting finally giving maternity care the attention it deserves, this investigation is not necessary in light of the APPG on Birth Trauma's national inquiry and the Ockenden Review.

Ms Clarke said:

'There's no need for a further investigation into maternity care as the issues are well-known, courtesy of Donna Ockenden and my cross-party Birth Trauma Inquiry in Parliament last year with Rosie Duffield MP. Just like the grooming gangs, we know what the problem is but nothing gets done except more talk. Wes Streeting needs to take action. He has all the tools and knowledge at hand to implement a national maternity strategy right now, which the previous Government committed to. A delay like this is just failing more mothers.
