Theo Clarke New Statesman 10 May 2025

Theo Clarke and her upcoming book, Breaking the Taboo, was featured in the New Statesman today. In it, Ms Clarke set out in harrowing detail the treatment she received whilst giving birth, and the inadequacy of assistance in the first days and weeks post-partum. She also describes the unsympathetic behaviour of colleagues within parliament and her constituency association, who chose to deselect her whilst she was in the early stages of recovery. Throughout the article - and the book - the birth trauma of other women is highlighted, demonstrating the systemic failures which have existed in our maternity services for decades.
